Getting ready for the Roseanne Reboot

Of late, I have been once again been beset by granny square fever.

My first bout with it was late last winter. Two years early my mom had promised her then pregnant neighbor that I would make a blanket for the baby.

My mother’s promise of a blanket had been languishing on my “to get done” list for two years, but last February I finally had a vision of the blanket I wanted to make and after 24 months of having no idea what I would do, I completed a granny square blanket in must under 3 weeks.

This was the result:

Blocked and ready for adventure

From there, I went on to make this granny rectangle blanket for the now toddler’s older brother:

Putting a granny rectangle blanket to bed

and if other things had not interceded, I think I would have spent all of 2017 crocheting granny squares.

With the Roseanne Reboot set to debut in March of 2018:

Now (as in today) struck me as the perfect time to indulge all of my granny square decadence.

Using a 5.0 mm hook and a selection of worsted weight yarns, I got my granny on.

Using Red Heart Super Saver delft and a 5.0 mm hook, I worked the first round as follows:

With A, ch 8 ; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring, ch 3] 3 times; join with a slip st in top of ch-3. Fasten off and weave in ends.

And while I have not yet worked out the details of the fifth round (it looks like dc stitches worked into each dc and ch-1 space rather than another round of 3 dc shells) I did make the first four rounds of a second granny square:

Two four-round Roseanne Reboot granny squares ready for the final round

I don’t know what it is about granny squares that entrances me so, but they do, and until they don’t I will continue to crochet them, one stitch at a time.
